"In 1996, I visited Moscow for the first time as part of my Venice Architecture University research trip. I wanted to learn more about Russian Constructivism.
That trip and others over the following decade completely changed my perspective on architecture, revealing its potential as a performance instrument and its interaction with the human body. I was immersed in research ranging from Lyubov Popova scenography to Vsevolod Meyerhold biomechanics and other genius Russian architects and artists from the early twentieth century.
In 2006, almost a week after I moved to Brazil, my dear friend Fyodor asked me to design a moving stage for his Carousel project; and finally everything came together." Marko Brajovic.
Fyodor’s Performance Carousel is a number of independent solo performances, where each artist signed an agreement not to reveal the details and the meaning of their work to fellow participants. They perform on a circular stage partitioned by walls.
The carousel does not move unless the three cycling stations posted at its edges are used by the members of the audience. The performances literally move away from the viewers unless they attempt to physically catch up with them, in an attempt to penetrate their insides, to overcome the centrifugal force that keeps the viewer out of the sacred space of live art.
