Nhe’ẽry exhibition: where the spirits bathe
Atelier Marko Branovic was honored to be invited to transpose the dream of curators Sonia Ara Mirim, Cristine Takuá, Sandra Ara Rete Benites and curator Carlos Papa Mirim Poty of “bringing the vision of the spirits that inhabit the forest” to the exhibition space of the Museum of Indigenous Cultures, in celebration of its first anniversary.
“Nhe’ẽ ry is a way of understanding the dimension of the forest, a sanctuary that can turn into a portal. It can be translated as "where spirits bathe", and purify themselves to have divine elevation, integrating the cosmological world to have a spiritual lightness and eternal life - in the Guarani conception, the Yvy Marae'ỹ."
Exhibition that brings life
We transformed the museum room into a nursery for seedlings endemic to the Atlantic Forest, which will grow and regenerate part of the forest, forming a life cycle. The proposed modular structure, in addition to carrying the plans, supports a diversity of contents and experiences. A multimedia installation in the center of the room brings sounds and dreamlike visions of the beings and spirits that inhabit Nhe'ery, sharpening all our senses.
PLANT NURSERY - See the Floresta
External walls of the exhibition are transformed into a nursery for seedlings of the Atlantic forest, creating an environment of humidity and natural light. The plants filter and naturalize the view of the city, and strategic plans propose landscape frameworks, making connections between the exhibition and the landscape.
SINGING STONE - Listening to the People of the Forest
The curved shape at the heart of the exhibition is a natural monolith, an auditory installation that carries several Nhe'ery chants.
CAVE OF DREAMS - Feel the spirits of the forest
An immersive audio-visual installation invites visitors into a multisensory Nhe'ery experience. Dark, humid and serious environment, which organizes the audience around a video art that starts on the floor, climbs the walls and spills over everyone.
FOREST CARTOGRAPHS - See the forest
The back wall of the exhibition is a great support for explanatory content of photos, texts and videos.
“This exhibition seeks to bring the vision of the spirits that inhabit the forest. Each vegetable, animal and mineral being has its profound Wisdom. The guardian spirits of everything that inhabits it are connected with the original peoples that spring from Nhe’ẽ ry.”
The Atlantic Forest is a heritage at risk
Being threatened daily, the Atlantic Forest is experiencing intense deforestation, with less than 20% of the original vegetation remaining. Much of it is protected by indigenous peoples who live there. Preserving biomes, the Atlantic Forest, preserving forests and animals is preserving life on earth.Nhe’ẽ ry.
