Asha house starts from the premise of a low cost dwelling and proposes a simple modular construction system that is assembled on site. The house floor plan is flexible, allowing for the following configurations: two bedroom house, one bedroom with a living room, or an office or classroom.
The main element at Asha is a roof that covers the sidewalls to a height of 1.5m with major openings on the two extremes of the house. That solution not only protects sidewalls from rain-showers and sunlight, but also minimizes material usage for the house structure and sidewall glass. Another aspect, inspired by a tradition in Ashaninka house architecture, is the use of the space inside the eaves as storage.
Regarding the general structure, instead of having a hierarchical organization of large foundations, pillars and beams, the Asha house was “woven” from very thin wooden boards of equal profiles (5cm x 14cm) that are used for the whole structure, optimizing materials and joint solutions.
