After a deep immersion in the Tapajós forest in the Amazon, the research and creation process of the workshop Inhabiting the Anthropocene was carried out, organized by the Architectural Association Visiting School and directed by Marko Brajovic and Nacho Marti, with the coordination of architect Penelope Casalderey and architecture parametric Camila Calegari. Together with a magnificent group of participants who have come from China, England, India, Colombia, Russia and clearly Brazil, the theme was how to expand and innovate the structure of the Forest School at Atelier do Chão, a unique place in the Amazon, which opens its doors to hundreds of children in the region. As always, the immersion began with a meeting under a tree and continued in the Escola da Floresta maloca where we had talks on regional architecture, ecology, indigenous territory, bioprospecting and bioeconomy, as well as talks on fiber architecture technology and Forest Cities. We had special guests like prof. Hippocrates Chalkidis, Lalai Boarari, Claudio Mendes and environmental educators from Escola da Floresta.
The braiding and natural dyeing workshops were held in the Coroca community on the Arapiuns river and we continued the rest of the days, focusing on the production of the new Master Plan for innovation and expansion of Escola da Floresta and the production of the prototype of a parametric hut made entirely of fiber. natural area of curuá thanks to the ancestral construction wisdom of Jacú and Gregg Borari. The concept of integrating digital vernacular guided the design process and modular execution of the architecture and respective architectural derivations integrated into the new Master Plan of Escola da Floresta.
